Season 1: Episode 10 - Take Two

Postby Spengs » November 8th, 2005, 9:55 am

Even before the DVD Giftset (region 1) came out there was speculation on which episodes of The Real Ghostbusters would be included on the DVD. Like myself, many of us assumed at least Citizen Ghost would be included. Naturally it was. While Partners In Slime doesn't really fit the "movie theme" to a tee, I had a pretty good feeling it would also be included.

It would have been better in at least in my opinion if Sony had included Take Two. For those of you who don't know, this episode shows how Ghostbusters was real (of course it is, silly kids) and its time to make our first movie. The RGBs are invited to Hollywood to watch it all be made. Of course the RGBs can't just supervise and have fun. They'll have to deal with some kind of ghost problem. When they try, they end up wearing prop proton packs. Anyhow by the end of the episode we're all at the premiere and a little bit of the beginning of Ghostbusters was shown.

I would really like to see this episode and put it on the site for all of us to enjoy. I have searched for it, but can't find it. If you have it on your computer or know where to get it, please get in touch with me.

Thanks so much.

Thanks to jamesw92 for pointing out that season 1 could be downloaded, the episode Take Two is now on my computer. It was uploaded by austin316gb.

I watched it this morning and was looking forward to the end. You know where our cartoon versions of our bosses show up for the premeire of Ghostbusters. If you remember from the original airings the RGBs are actually in the theater watching the beginning of Ghostbusters. Guess what, this version aired by Fox (Fox Kids) edited all that out! :x

Way to be politically correct I guess. I miss the 80s.

The Real Ghostbusters are off to California as our blockbuster movie, Ghostbusters is going to be made. Unfortunately the film making is delayed when a noise-hating ghost is awakened and terrorizes the set. Even worse, the proton packs have been locked away. How will the RGBs defeat this ghost? Will our movie ever get made? ;) We guess we'll need Take Two.

Notes from the GBI Historian:

The Ghostbusters Omnibus Timeline and the GBI Timeline places the events of this story in Year Two, 1984.
http://www.ectozone.com/gbtimeline/01.html
http://www.ectozone.com/gbtimeline/11.html

It's from this episode that a major concept of the Timeline is derived: the placement of Season 1 in 1984, the time the Ghostbusters movie is being made and released, and thus the controversial placement of the Gozer case in 1983. People still give me heck about that (lol).

From Kingpin: "Dr. Crowley is a reference to Lovecraft. Referenced to writer Aliester (sp?) Crowley. The RGB writers weren't exactly original when it came to names, we have Ray's childhood nemesis Charles Favish, then the elderly Mrs Faversham, then we had the horror film character Dr. Crowley, then the villian who tried to destroy Halloween Dr. Crowley, and then we have Ray's nautical hero Max Philopolous, and then we had the monks of Saint Theopolus."

For the first and probably only time we see prop proton packs, traps, and other equipment in our cartoon.

This came up during some of the "movie vs. TV" debates on GBN, and whether the cartoon packs were supposed to be "different" from the movie ones. Since the prop packs seen in this episode are drawn identical to the "real" ones, our assertion is that the RGB design was just a stylized version that the cartoon studio came up with because it was easier to draw. (The PKE Meter is the one item that I do depict the difference as being valid--the idea is that Egon created an upgraded version after the Gozer battle--the one seen in the cartoons. I also basically accept the idea of the trap connection to the left side as being a valid retrofit of the pack made after the Gozer battle.)

When Winston reads off who will be playing "Peter," "Ray," and "Egon," they're the actors who really played our bosses in our blockbuster films Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis also wrote both screen plays.

We all know that Venkman spends the episode complaining that Bill Murray "looks nothing like [him]". And in the EGB episode "Back In The Saddle, Part 1" Venkman claims that one of the reasons GB3 hadn't been made yet is because he couldn't convince Brad Pitt to play him :D
