Sears Wish Book For Kids - 1987

Postby Spengs » October 8th, 2007, 10:12 am

From today news update.

Action Figure Archives has scans of Sears Christmas catalogs going back to 1971. While many years will bring back the memories and heartache, the year that interests us the most for our intents and purposes is 1987. While we're not sure if 1987 was the first year Kenner released Ghostbusters toys, they were most likely hot toys for Christmas 1987. You know you wanted it all and believed the ones who took care of you had unlimited cash!

Interesting to note is the toy proton pack. I know its been 20 years, I don't remember the PKE meter hooking on to the pack. Of course the proton gun could and later on the toy trap. Seeing the pack as is has sparked discussion if the pack might have been a prototype. What do you think?

The Real Ghostbusters scan seems to have come from page 279. The site disables direct linking. To see the RGB and SilverHawks toys scan, click on the 6th page.

I'm pretty sure the very first RGB toys were out in the fall of 1986, around the same time that the show came out. I distinctly remember Mom getting us a set for that Chrismas (with four boys, we each got one. She gave me Egon, which probably doesn't surprise anyone on this board)

I think at the time it was just the four figures and a few ghosts (including Slimer and Stay-Puft), while the Firehouse, the ECTO-1, the Proton Pack, ect. came a little later (maybe early 87?); maybe the line was released too late to make the 1986 book.

Cliff Roswell put up a direct capture of the page:

I just went and looked at the RGB Proton Pack I have and it does have a spot for the PKE Meter but not on the side of the Pack. The PKE Meter holder is on the uper left sholder area on the "back" of of the pack (the part that actualy is on you back). But since this is not the one I had when i was little I do not have a way of dating what year it was made. But I did not see a spot for the trap to hook up to but there is a hook for the Proton Gun. Hope that helped.
