Webmaster's note: This was originally written to be Dr. Venkman's bio for ghostbustersinternational.com. Realizing it backed us into a corner on everyone's else bios, the GBI web team would later figure out a format for all bios for the site. The following article was too good to just scrap. After talking it over with Dr. Venkman, we agreed we should publish it for an edition of Venkman's World.
Before becoming the founder of the largest paranormal removal company ever, Dr. Peter Venkman was a scientist (along with his friends and colleagues Drs. Raymond Stantz and Egon spengler) at the university testing theories on those who may have esp abilities. "It was fun telling the student body they were wrong. That and giving college students tiny electrical shocks." - Dr. Venkman.
How little did Dr. Venkman know his life was about to change. "I was discussing one of the students ESP abilities when Ray walked in. He was getting worked up about an old librarian lady who thought she saw a ghost." - Dr. Venkman.
Being the scientist and professional he is, Dr. Venkman went over to the main branch of the NY Public Library to investigate with Dr. Stantz. After talking to Alice (yes, Dr. Venkman, that is her name) and still not taking what was happening seriously, Egon told Ray it was moving. Dr. Venkman followed, taking his time at first. "Up to this point, we had never seen ectoplasmic activity of any kind. I know Ray and Egon studied this stuff more then I ever did. It was easy to be skeptical." - Dr. Venkman
Drs. Venkman, Stantz, and Egon soon discovered more signs of paranormal activity. Such as a symmetrical book stacking, telekinetic activity, ectoplasm, (slime), and a book case trying to fall on them.
Soon after, led by Dr. Spengler, the three scientists found their first full torso apparition. "We hadn't thought this out really. We just made the biggest scientific break through since Galileo. What did we do? I talked to it." - Dr. Venkman
Unfortunately it didn't get the scientists anywhere. Nor did Dr. Stantz's plan. Back on their way to Weaver Hall, Peter and Ray discussed what happened and what this would mean. Egon was busy crunching numbers. "I still like to kid Ray about that. It can be really funny in hindsight. At the time we were so frightened, we just ran...fast." - Dr. Venkman
Egon's calculations led them to believe they could catch and contain ghosts. Dr. Venkman let this sink in, contemplating what this would mean for them. "The light bulb was already turning on." If Ray and Egon could invent something to catch ghosts, it would have put us and the university on the map. More importantly with our grants, that trip to Norway to pick up the Nobel Prize was right around the corner. Or so I thought." - Dr. Venkman
When the guys returned, they immediately found out their grant was terminated. All the equipment they used at the library was consficated. "Except the PKE Meter and the stethoscope headphones. I know Egon loved those. He may have stolen them actually." - Dr. Venkman
After a short period of where the future would lead them, Dr. venkman was so sure Ray and Egon could invent this ghost catching equipment that they would go into business for themselves. He knew they were on the threshold on establishing the definite science of the next decade. Maybe more importantly along the lines of his previous thinking, becoming rich. "I know that isn't why they wanted to get into it. If we became successful, we'd make money and be able to branch out." - Dr. Venkman
